I had heard a rumor that there was such a thing as Fabric Spray paint. I had to find out for myself. A spray paint that doesn’t make your fabric, or furniture crusty? Too good to be true? Well, I am hear to tell you that it exists and it is fantastic and I am so excited to tell you about it.
the brand is called Simply Spray and they carry 3 different kinds of fabric spray paint. Stencil Spray,Soft fabric paint and Upholstery fabric paint. I had a welcome mat that had worn out it’s welcome. I knew that the Stencil Spray would be perfect to use to redo it.
I wanted to spruce up the colors and show off the details that sun and weather had taken away. I knew that a regular spray paint would not work because it would not give me a spray that I couldn't control. The simply spray stencil spray allows to have a more steady, concentrated stream of color.
The Stencil Spray takes the most practice getting use to. It should spray more like a mist but occasionally when it first starts it can be more of a stream. We always spray the can first on a scrap to let it "warm-up" some. Also, providing VERY firm and even pressure to the trigger can help it spray more evenly. The Stencil Spray has more of a tendency to do this compared to the Soft Fabric or Upholstery.
This is exactly what I wanted,so I was thrilled when I tried the stencil spray.
As you can see in the pictured above, the easiest way to work with this paint is to get close to where you need the color to go and then rub the paint in. Because of the straw-like texture of the mat, rubbing the paint in was extremely important.
I touched up the birds, the birdhouse, branch and the leaves. I also turned the welcome into a “welcome cloud.” Why a welcome cloud? Well, I may have sprayed the wrong color on the W, and I may have needed to “fix it.” I like the welcome cloud. Don’t you?
Oh-I also gave the little birds some beak love with orange paint. I only needed a little amount of the orange,so I sprayed the paint on some newspaper and painted the beaks with my fingers.
TIP-If you accidentally get some paint on the wrong spot, don’t stress. Lightly rubbing the area with a fingernail file will the lighten the spot. Almost like an eraser. I am guessing that this tip will not work for every project, but it worked perfectly for this one.
Now-where do you get this fantastic stuff?
The full line of Simply Spray’s Upholstery Fabric Paint are available online at www.spraypaint4fabric.com; select colors are also available at Hobby Lobby and Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores nationwide. Each can is about $12.99 a can. For product demo videos visit www.simplyspray.com.
So now that you are thinking of projects to do with the Simply Spray Stencil Spray-think clothes. Back to school is right around the corner and this product would be perfect to makeover a backpack or a pair of shoes. Also-Halloween t-shirts!
I also have used the Upholstery paint on a chair, a footstool and a lampshade. You guys, this product is going to change your life! I can’t wait to show you…
I hope that I inspired you to paint something!
Happy Creating!

DeleteThis is an awesome idea. I am doing my baby girls nursery right now. The rug I want is sooo expensive. I have thought of making my own but don't want a crusty rug in a nursery. I might have to give it a try. Do you think this would work on a thick pile wool rug too?
ReplyDeleteYes. They have some bigger cans that is Upholstery paint. I have used both. If you are doing a large rug, I would get the larger cans. I think that you would be happier with it. Good Luck! I would love for you to email me some of your finished pics.
DeleteThis is really cool! Thanks for sharing!
