DIY Thank You Gift-Pocketful of Sunshine

I love a good, simple project.

Don’t you? Well, last week I was trying to come up with a little something to give my 8 roomies at EVO Conference.

I needed 8 of whatever I came up with, so it had to be cheap & easy.

I had seen some cute ideas on pinterest using yellow stuff & I loved them!  I made my own twist using small yellow things. Who doesn’t love a happy gift?

how to make a pocket full of sunshine with sassy style redesign

The whole time that I was making these, I kept singing I got a pocket, got a pocketful of sunshine!

Now, you are going to have this song in your head for the rest of the day.

You are so welcome!

Now tell me, Who would not want to get this?

I know that it would make me smile.

I guarantee that it will make you smile as well!

I know that you are just dying to learn how to make one…

Supplies needed:

a pocket full of sunshine .. full supplies list

Think Yellow!

-Nerds

-Lemon heads-Small & Large

-Chicklets gum

-Now & later’s

Yellow Post it Notes (Dollar Store)

Darling Yellow/Gray mechanical pencil

Yellow and white straws

Indiv. Packet of Lemonade

Cellophane bag

Yellow Washi Tape

Small ,jewelry size ziplock bag (for the little lemon heads)

I needed to make 8 of these. So, I was thinking of the cheapest way possible to put these together. I have a local, super cool store called,  Smith & Edwards. They have penny candy and so it was the perfect place to find my little, yellow candies.

I also headed to the Dollar Store. I picked up my Lemonade, large box of Lemon heads and Post it notes here. Oh, & I got the yellow shred here as well.

Last but not least, I went to Target and hit up the dollar spot. This is where I found the cutest yellow & gray mechanical pencils.

Oh wait, one more thing. The cutest yellow striped straws were from Pick Your Plum. If you have never been to their site,  they are a daily deal site that has the cutest stuff! Check it out..often.

I already had the cellophane bags and washi tape.

I needed to find something to put the small lemon heads in. I used some small, jewelry size, mini zip lock bags. I am sorry, I have no idea what they are called. I do, however, know that you can pick them up at Wal-mart or any craft store.

I don’t have a picture of this step, but I added some cute paper to the top. Just something simple to hide the staples.  Instead of putting the stuff in the bag with the bottom seam on the bottom (does that make sense?)

I flipped the bag on it’s side and filled it that way. I did this so the little things would stay where I put them.

The whole pocket cost about $1.25 each to make.

Cheap and simple! You know, my 2 favorite words when it comes to crafting!

While I was putting these together, my kids thought that it would be super fun to take spazzy pictures of themselves. I love my crazy, picture happy kids!

I hope that you try your hand at making your own Pocket Full of Sunshine. I promise that you can’t help but smile, when you give or receive one.

Happy Creating!

  4. Love this idea. i've seen the sunshine boxes and I did try and make one for a friend's brother that got hurt once, but I like the "pocket" idea better because it's easier to fill up. I pinned this!
