The flipside of my pillow..

So, Studio 5 (the TV show that I go on a couple times a month) came to my house today to film some stuff for some future segments.
Let's just say that I was a little stressed.
My husband would say that LITTLE is an understatement.
Anyway, I LOVE going on the show.
It's super fun.
Key word is love going ON the show.
I don't love when the camera comes to my house.
They filmed something in every room in my house.
Therefore, I had to clean EVERY room in my house.
Plus-it had to look all cute and stuff.
Cause I am a freak!
It all turned out fine and everything.
I knew that it would, I just didn't know if I would be sane enough to enjoy it.
Really-I couldn't believe that I was FREAKING out about this.
As I was cleaning the bathroom today I thought,
"Tausha, do you really think that they are going to notice that your mop boards are clean?
Come on-It's a before shot. It's supposed to be bad."
Even when I reasoned with myself-didn't matter.
I was still a freak!
Oh well-it's done.

I had to make up 6's bed all cute for the shoot.
I thought that I had everything.
Then I went to put it all together.
Who cries over the fact that they don't have the right color pillow?
Like I said, I was a little stressed and my diet coke was gone.

I was looking around trying to come up with something.
I didn't want to go back to the DI.
It was then that I saw this skirt in her closet.
I knew exactly what I was going to do.

I found this pillow form and a pair of scissors and went to work.

I cut the skirt apart.
Because it had ruffles.
I had always wanted a ruffled pillow, just didn't want to pay the price for one.
This was the perfect solution.

Now, I am sure that some of you are thinking...
What solution? A skirt and a pillow form? This chick is crazy!
Probably..but just follow me here.

I cut the top of the skirt off, so all I was left with was the layered ruffled part.

Then I cut the skirt in half again.
I now had 2 sets of ruffles.

I then cut each layer of ruffle off.

This is what I was left with.

Then I pulled out my glue gun!
Shocker, I know.
I just started gluing the strips of ruffles to the pillow.

This part took me 5 minutes.
I was a little too giddy at this point than one should be about a ruffled pillow.
But come on, I didn't have to SEW anything!

Cute huh?
What, you can't tell it was a skirt?
What, you can't believe the whole project was FREE!!??
I know!!
Because it's me and I can't leave well enough alone, I added more stuff to it.
I had some of this green plaid fabric that matched some of the other stuff in her room.
I cut the fabric into strips and made my own ruffles.

I did a green ruffle between every 2 pink ones.
I just glued little pleats with my glue gun.

All done!
What do you think?
Not too bad for a skirt pillow!
I also made the pillow sham and the cute yellow, bolster pillow.
More details on that later.
I was just so excited about the skirt pillow that I had to share!!

I hope that this inspires you to look in your kids closets and cut up their clothes!!
Hey, if their closet's look anything like my girls, they will never know.

If you have any questions, let me know.
I will post more fun BED PARAPHERNALIA starting on Monday!
Now that I re-read that, that statement sounds kind of um...
Let's just say I will show custom pillow shams, more pillow ideas and such.
All done on the cheap, of course!
Happy Weekend!!

  2. The stress must be a family thing because I would be the exact same way!
Man, you are busy! A pillow, a clean house, a tv segment, and a blog post all in one day...I want your energy!!!
Let us know when we can catch your latest gig.

  3. Too cute! Love how it looks with the other pillows!

I just used a Goodwill skirt for a little art project that is now hanging on the wall in my bathroom. I had plans to turn it into t a pillow as well but never go around to it so I used it for something else.
