All about 10 and a winner!

So, It's 10 birthday today.
Yes-I refer to my children as numbers.
I know, I am weird.

Anyway-I started this little tradition on my girls birthdays.
I re-decorate their rooms.
I search the thrift stores for items I can repurpose, reuse and make cute again.

10's room is pink and brown. It was this way when we moved in.
It needs a paint job-desperately, and the previous owner was kind of lazy-so the beadboard job leaves a lot to be desired.
I didn't want to paint-yet.
So, I worked with what I had.
Since 10 is on the brink of being a teenager-I kind of "grew-up" her room just a bit. Here are a couple of  before and afters and some of the fun stuff I made.

First off-yes, her room is a big fat mess.
Actually this is pretty clean. I only took out one sack of garbage. We are not even going to talk about how much crap I took out last time.

Before..
After.... So MUCH better! I painted some frames to match some new fabric that I put in the room. She had the big M-I just added some chocolate color-pink,vinyl hearts and a rosette I made. The little M was on clearance at Wal-Mart for $1.50. I just added it to some funky 70's frame that I picked up for 50 cents.
The pillows-the new ones were liquid stitched together. I am so proud of myself! You can't even tell that they are not sewn together. I just re-covered some thrift store pillows with some darling "grown up" fabric. The white eyelet one had a big ol' ruffle around the edge that I cut off. I just added some ric-rac. Cause I love it!
10 lives in the basement. It gets so very cold down there-so these are not the cutest curtains in the whole world. But they are lined and they work perfect for cold, utah nights.  She will be getting some super cute new ones-as soon as we have warmer temps.  That old desk in the corner-5 bucks at the thrift store. Pretty sure I love it more than she does, but whatever...

I moved the desk over and put her shelf next to it to hold all of her art supplies. She too loves to craft. I have no idea where she gets this from. :)
The little black circle thing on the wall...I am pretty sure it is a card holder. It is perfect to hold pics. She loved this! She can put whatever she wants to display in it. Great deal for a quarter eh?

This little table has been in the fam for 10 years. It is made out of crappy fake wood. I thought I would try to  paint it.  What did I have to lose?
I used the behr-paint and primer in one. I LOVE this stuff. It covered all the crappiness in 2 coats. I then used a walnut stain-wiped on and then wiped off. I LOVED how it turned out.
ps-I just used the sample size of the paint.
I heart these little sample cans.

Do you see the lamp in the before pic above? She has had it forever. It was just a little too pink. I again pulled out the stain and went to town.  I covered the lamp shade with cutest polka dot fabric-finished up with some ric-rac. Really, I can't help myself!

The little pillow mess in the corner-her own little reading nook. I am big-pro reader and I wanted to make a little space just for that.
Don't you love the fact that handles on the dresser are just hanging there?
Awesome huh?
I didn't want to walk outside and get the drill.
Yes-I am that lazy.
Just keeping it real.

I am hooking up with all of the Tuesday Terrifisness!
Check it out!

Oh-I bet you thought I forgot about the giveaway.
I used all kinds of scientificness to decide on the winner.
So scientific-A kitchen bowl and pieces of paper.

Before I tell you who won...
Thanks so much for entering! I love all the new friends who have found me, and now I now where to find you!
I blog in hopes of inspiring others-so I hope that I can do that for all of you!

And the winner is.....

Congratulations Amanda! Please email with all of your info!

  13. I love how all the funky no-sew pillows look on the bed. It was difficult for my non-crafty brain to understand how they would look all together when you were done, but now I get it!!

    So did M love it?

I refer to my kids as numbers too! And my Kid#10 just turned 10 yesterday. I've been working on her bedroom for a year & a half, so that's NOT what she's getting for her Bday, but that's a darling idea!
